Leanne's Story: Welcome to the Flat Side!

Today marks two weeks since my lower body lift/belt lipectomy. If you've been reading about my journey after weight loss surgery, you'll know that I have had a lot of emotions. But, even so, I don't think I recognized the range of emotions I'd be feeling post-op:

  • Gratitude for my surgeon and the team at his practice for their care and concern.
  • Happiness with the end result.
  • Frustration with myself for trying to do too much, too soon. There's a good reason you are told to REST.
This week, my drains will be removed and the nurse will probably take off some of the tape covering my new scars. While some people worry about the scar, I'm excited to see them.

You know, I read something recently that really made me stop and think: the first scar we ALL have is our bellybutton! It's a reminder of that literal connection to our mothers that kept us alive.

My bellybutton is brand new crafted by my surgeon after the pounds of skin and fat were removed, so in many ways, this is my rebirth! New bellybutton, new scars, new life.

Some people want to cover their scars, and TuckTats can be a great option for that, but I like to think of TuckTats as a way to adorn your scars, not hide them. The big debate online is whether a tummy tuck scar tattoo hides the scar, or brings attention to it. But, here's another option: I also think they serve as a great way to honour your scar and a conversation starter.

No matter what scars you have, or whether you want to cover them or show them off, there's plenty of time left to embrace your scars and the story they tell about you.
